How to restore Base64 files safely
File decoding happens in this browser. The tool attempts to identify common formats from a data URL, MIME type, or file signature before offering a download. Unknown formats can still be downloaded, but their source should be checked with appropriate security software.
Checks before downloading
- Confirm that the source is trustworthy; do not execute or open unknown executable files.
- Previews are limited to common image formats. Save other files before opening them with suitable software.
- Large Base64 values use browser memory, so avoid very large files on low-memory devices.
Security and privacy
Decoding does not prove that content is safe. Base64 is only a representation and may contain scripts, documents, or binary files. Do not put sensitive Base64 in a URL; this tool processes input in the current browser session and does not retain results.
Base64 is not encryption
Anyone can decode Base64 data, so it cannot replace encryption, signing, or access control. Protect confidential data with a proven encryption design and careful key management.
